I support the transition to parenthood with the focus on supporting women make choices and have options with breastfeeding. With this very much in mind I don't want women to miss out as I did but rather be given the opportunities to try the numerous options that are available to help women breastfeed their babies as they are able to. There was no lactation consultant I knew to ask for help so was unaware of the number of options I could have tried that would have allowed me to continue breastfeeding. The result was, that I feed my son almost continuously night and day and faced daily ongoing pressure from family (not my husband) to wean, something I really didn't want to do. I finally had to succumb at three months and put him onto formula, (something my daughter had never had) and felt a complete failure as a mother. For a number of reasons, including the fact I was trying to juggle too many roles, I struggled with insufficient milk supply. My philosophy as a lactation consultant comes from my breastfeeding experience with our son, my second child. The story behind the philosophy. (more).
